The spouse of the President Sarkissian Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian attended the Nairian Dance Pan-Armenian award ceremony which took place at the A. Spendiarian Ballet and Opera National Academic Theater.
“Dancing is a language without words. We, Armenians, have been dancing for ages, trying to express our emotions, aspirations, relations. We have a rich history of dancing,” Nouneh Sarkissian said while handing the award to the Yerevan State Dance College.
She noted that Armenian ballet too, has rich traditions, recalling the great ballet dancer Agripina Vaganova who was of the Armenian origin. The Russian ballet academy in Saint Petersburg is named after her and she made a great contribution to the development of the world ballet. Mrs. Sarkissian noted that we should be proud of all Armenian ballet dancers performing on different stages of the world.
“They are ambassadors of the Armenian art. We should be glad, proud and appreciate them,” she said. The director of the Yerevan State Dance College Hasmik Markossian thanked Mrs. Sarkissian on behalf of the staff, noting that she is the collage’s biggest friend.
“She visits the college often and follows with great interest performances of our students. Thanks to her, two of our students are now in the Bolshoy Theater in Moscow and are taking master classes,” Hasmik Markossian said and added that Nouneh Sarkissian assisted also in the renovation of the college. She also informed that a children’s ballet would be staged soon based on Nouneh Sarkissian’s “Bald Hedgehog” tale.
