Delegation headed by Sheikha Hussah Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah of Kuwait familiarized with the historical and cultural heritage of Armenia

Delegation headed by Sheikha Hussah Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, the General Director of Kuwait Museum of Islamic Art (DAI) and co-owner of the al-Sahab collection, who is in Armenia at the invitation of the spouse of the President, Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian, accompanied by Mrs. Sarkissian visited the Megerian Carpets company to familiarize with the Armenian carpet making art and traditions.

They were demonstrated the samples of the traditional national carpets and presented the meaning of the Armenian carpet patterns and designs. In the manufacturing unit the guests observed the process of carpet making.

Later, Sheikha Hussah Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah was hosted at the “Yerevan, my love” Fund. During the tour with Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian, she familiarized with the activities and programs of the Fund. Sheikha Hussah Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, who has a considerable experience in the works on the preservation of architechural memorials, inquired about the works of the Fund on the restoration of historical buildings and forthcoming projects.

At the “Luseh” social and rehabilitation center for disabled children, which is functioning on the territory of the Fund, Nouneh Sarkissian spoke about the activities of the center. Before that, the delegation headed by Sheikha Hussah Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah visited Garni pagan temple and Geghard cloister to learn about the cultural and historical heritage of our country. The guests toured the historical sites and familiarized with their centuries-long history. In the framework of her famliarization visit to Armenia, Sheikha Hussah Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah has visited also a number of cultural establishements, including the Mesrop Mashtots Scientific and Research Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, Kafesjian Center for Arts.

In the framework of the visit discussed were the opportunities and agreements were reached to demonstrate in Yerevan exhibits from al-Sabah collection which present culture of different countries from different periods of time as well as to organize weeks of culture of the two countries.
